The short version

We keep the addresses you look up private to your account and never sell them. Ads appear only on free pages and are served by Google. Payments go through Paddle, so we never see your card. Our page-view analytics use no cookies.

Your account

You sign in with Google. We store your name, email address, profile picture link, and Google account ID, and a session cookie that keeps you signed in. That cookie is required for the site to work and is not used for tracking.

Addresses and reports

We save each address you look up, its map coordinates, and the report we build, so you can open it again. Only your account can see them. You can delete any report from My reports.

To build a report, our server sends the address or its coordinates to public data services: the US Census geocoder (to confirm the address), a FEMA flood map hosted by Esri (to look up the flood zone), the US Geological Survey (for ground elevation and nearby streams), and Wikipedia (for the town’s name and history). It also sends the EPA the ID of the public water system that serves the address, to look up drinking water violations. These requests come from our server, not your browser, and do not include your name or email.

Before a report is built, you can answer a few optional questions to tailor it: whether you are renting or buying, where you commute (an address or a military installation), your military pay grade and whether you have dependents, and whether schools matter to you. We store your answers with that report so it reads the same when you open it again, and they are deleted when you delete the report.

Advertising

Free pages (the home page and the free bottom-line view of a report) may show ads from Google AdSense. Paid reports never show ads. Google’s ad code runs on those pages and can read the page, including the address shown on a free report view.

We ask Google for non-personalized ads, which are not based on your browsing on other sites. Google may still use cookies or similar technology for things like limiting how often you see an ad and preventing fraud. Learn how Google uses this information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Payments

Paddle is our reseller and handles checkout, sales tax, and receipts. Paddle collects your payment details under its own privacy policy. We receive only the transaction and subscription IDs, what you bought, and whether the payment went through.

Address monitoring and email

If you monitor an address, our server checks the same public data for that location several times a day, including the Esri-hosted flood map. When something new appears, we list it on your Alerts page and, unless you turn emails off, send it to your Google account email through our email provider. You can turn emails off for each address on the Alerts page.

Analytics

We count page views with Umami, which we run ourselves. It uses no cookies, ignores the part of a web address after “?”, and respects your browser’s Do Not Track setting. Report pages are identified by a random ID, not by the address.

Contact messages

When you use the contact form, we keep your name, email address, and message so we can reply, and forward them to our support inbox by email. If you are signed in, we link the message to your account.

How long we keep data

Reports stay in your account until you delete them. Payment records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. To get a copy of your data or delete your account, write to us through the contact form.

Children

AddressRecon is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
